MATCHING GIFT PROGRAM

Double your donation!

Many companies (see list below) provide a matching program. Below are some frequently asked questions:

1. What is the Matching Funds Program and what does it do?

  • Matching Funds is a PTSA program that helps facilitate the matching of any monetary donations made to the Mead PTSA by corporate employers who provide the benefit to their employees.
  • For qualifying employees, it’s an easy way to double their donations and help the PTSA go even farther in helping to support Mead Elementary throughout the school year.

2. How do I know if my donations to the Mead PTSA can be matched?

  • Scroll down to see a list of some of the participating employers in our area and find out how to make a match request with them.
  • Not every employer or company offers a corporate matching gifts or funds program. If you are not sure, check with your employer’s HR department to find out.
  • Many corporations require that the organization they are matching funds for have 501(3)(c) non-profit status. The Mead PTSA does!

3. If my donations can be matched, how do I make that happen?

  • Most employers with matching gift programs make it easy for their employees to match donations.   Usually it’s a matter of filling out a form or submitting a simple request online. Visit your Company’s Employee website for information and procedures. Mead is unable to sign up on your behalf.
  • Please note that each company is different and individual employer policies can change from time to time, however, so check with your company’s HR department to find out the most up-to-date details.
  • As an employee, you must complete all of the appropriate forms, which will include the name of the charity of your choice (Margaret Mead Elementary School PTSA, Chapter 2.8.38). The address listed for Mead PTSA may include Tacoma, WA. This is correct because the Washington State PTA is our Registered Agent. Any donations designated to Mead PTSA will be forwarded to us from WSPTA.
  • Depending on your company, you may need to complete forms online or drop off the completed paper form in the Mead PTSA mailbox, located in the main office. During school closure, the drop off option is not viable.
  • Most companies send the matching dollars on a quarterly basis. Please check back with your Company’s Employee website to make sure that the matching amount has been processed.

4. What can I do to maximize the benefits of my employer’s Matching Gifts program?

  • Many companies have certain requirements for matching their employees’ gifts. For instance, some companies will only match donations that meet a certain one-time minimum dollar amount, such as $25, $50 or $100.
  • In these instances, a donor is better off giving an amount that meets the minimum dollar amount once rather than giving a lesser amount on several different occasions.
  • For example, donations of $15 at Taking Care of Business and $35 for Walk-a-Thon would not be matched by a company that requires a $50 minimum donation in order to match. These amounts cannot be aggregated and a donor would be better off making a one-time donation of $50 at just one event.
  • These minimums vary by company and change from time to time, so again, it is important to check with your specific employer’s HR department to find out the details and plan ahead!
  • Many companies also have a Volunteer Matching Program that will make donations to Mead PTSA base on the number of hours you volunteer with our PTSA. Companies such as Microsoft, Boeing, and Amazon pay an hourly rate for your volunteer time. It’s easy for Mead PTSA to benefit from these offerings. Simply submit your volunteer hours on your company’s employee volunteer site. A Mead PTSA Board Member will confirm these hours prior to payment from the company. For example, Microsoft will donate $25/hour to our PTSA when you volunteer with our organization. Please check with your Human Resources Department to confirm their participation in a Volunteer Matching Program.
