Congratulations to all 34 students who competed in the Mead Spelling Bee on Thursday, February 7th.
The bee lasted for 27 rounds, with Stephen Willy taking 1st place, Ezra Lee taking 2nd and Vivian Xie placing 3rd. Stephen is homeschooled and in 3rd grade. Ezra is in Ms. Swensen's 3rd grade classroom at Mead and Vivian is in Mr. Olsen's 4th grade class. Stephen will go on to represent Mead at the Regional Spelling Bee in Bellevue on March 2. This Thursday, November 15th all Mead students will have their vision and hearing screened. To accomplish this task, Mead’s nurse, Mihaela Dobre, needs many helping hands. Thank you all for coming to the Reflections Reception. It is such a great opportunity to celebrate our young artists! If you didn't make it, your ribbon and certificate was delivered to your teacher's mailbox last week and will be coming home shortly. Independent judges/artists blindly scored all submitted pieces for interpretation of the theme (50%), creativity (25%) and mastery of the medium (25%) and advancement was based on judges scores. With the weather changing from cold mornings into warm afternoons during the month of September, the number of kids leaving coats on the playground was....a LOT! The Lost & Found is bursting! PLEASE use next week's conference time & New Book Fair to look for a lost coat. We will be taking things to the Goodwill in the middle of the year and at the end of the year. The results for the SBA (Smarter Balanced Assessments) from spring, 2018 are now available. Instructions to access your student's scores are below. Scores for the ELA and Math assessments will also be mailed to you via U.S. mail later this month. Results from Smarter Balanced Assessments available in Parent Access. Each spring, Washington public school students in grades 3-8 and high school are tested in English language arts (ELA) and math, with exams called Smarted Balanced Assessments (SBA). Enrichment coordinat or : This position works with the YMCA and informs Mead parents of before and after school care options. You may also work with outside enrichment vendors who may want to teach at Mead. There is no fee collecting or soliciting enrichment teachers – the YMCA handles that aspect. School start and end times changed for the 2018-19 school year as a seven-period schedule was implemented for high school students. A School Start Time Advisory Committee comprised of staff and parents from elementary, middle, and high school levels is continuing work in 2018-19. Due to Advisory Committee membership attrition and changes, we added members for this year’s work, including two middle school principals, two Lake Washington Schools Foundation trustees/parents, and two elementary school office managers, and two Preschool teachers. It’s an annual art competition hosted by the PTA that goes up all the way to national level (starting at school level, then district, state and national).
