Seeking members for the 2018/19 Mead PTSA Board
The next few years at Mead are going to be very special and important. A new school will be under construction and we’ll be moving in the 2019/20 school year. The PTSA Board will need to work closely with parents, teachers and administrators during construction to ensure a great last year at the old building, a smooth transition to the new building and to say a proper good-bye to the Mead we’ve all known and loved.

If you are interested in joining the board, or another Mead committee, please forward any questions or interests to Molly Hylen (PTSA Secretary) mollyhylen@hotmail.com

For the 2018/19 school year we will have openings for: President, Vice President, Treasurer, FACE (Family and Community Engagement), Emergency Preparedness, Membership (a two person team), Communications (reader board).

Mead Families get ready for March Book Madness!!
In our library this year we are doing an all school March Book Madness! March Book Madness follows a bracket (similar to the NCAA March Madness for college basketball) of 16 picture books and 16 middle grade books. The theme of this year’s March Book Madness is ‘Compelling Characters’ and if you would like to follow the online competition you can check it out at http://marchbookmadness.weebly.com/picture-book-bracket.html and http://marchbookmadness.weebly.com/mg-novel-bracket.html

Books will be promoted in the library as well as in the classroom, with voting starting at the beginning of March for the Picture Book Bracket and mid-March for the Middle Grade Bracket.
This is a great opportunity to have some engaging conversations at home around books! If you would like to check out the books from your local library, reread those you have at home, or purchase some of these amazing books for your home library and enjoy them with your students, here is a complete list of the books we will be voting on in K-2 and 3-5:

Washington State PTSA Dad's Essay Contest Deadline March 1st

The Washington State PTSA holds a yearly statewide essay contest that explores the important and varied contributions that men make in the lives and education of children -- from the child's perspective. All men involved in a child's life -- fathers, uncles, grandfathers, brothers, step-fathers, mentors, neighbors, pastors, coaches and friends -- impact the children they care about. Research clearly shows that male involvement positively influences academic success at all levels of schooling -- preschool through college.

Click here for contest guidelines, divisions, and to read last year's winning entries, (including the winning entry from Alexander Wright of Samantha Smith Elementary!)
Deadline is March 1, 2018.
