The week of March 2nd is Read Across America week and we will be celebrating reading all month long at Mead Elementary!
On Friday, March 4th, we will have an All-School Cozy PJ Day and Read-In. Students can bring their favorite books to school and all classes will get cozy and enjoy some great books during the day!

In Library, we will be displaying books to read with the theme of “Immigrant and Refugee Stories”. We have a wonderful collection of picture and chapter books that feature characters who have immigrated to the United States and their experience. Encourage your student to check one out. We will also have an interactive World Map where students can add their own dot to identify where their family immigrated from or where their ancestors immigrated from. We are so excited to see and share all the places in the world represented here at Mead!
Finally, we will kick-off our Read Across America Bingo Bonanza on February 28th. Students can pick up a Read Across America Bingo Board during library. Participating students can earn Library extra credit and also help their class to win Library Choice time when we return in April from Spring Break. The class with the most participation in each grade will win! Students should spend the month of March filling in the Bingo Board, they can turn it in after they have completed 5 boxes in a row, or challenge themselves to create a Blackout and receive a prize from the Library Prize box!
Bingo Boards are due March 30th. Winning classes will be announced April 1st and Blackout Prizes will be given out the week of April 11th.
This is the second annual Read Across America Bingo competition between our Eastlake Area Elementary Schools: Dickinson/Explorer, Alcott, Smith, McAuliffe, Mead, Blackwell, and Carson. The school with the most participation wins, help Mead bring that ELC Library trophy home!
Please let me know if you have any questions and help us celebrate our love of reading!
